Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) – An audiologist from the Rochester area is helping other people hear better in Guatemala.
Ontario Hearing Centers is part of a group called ‘Hearing The Call’ that carries out mission trips to Latin American countries.
In San Pablo, Guatemala, audiologist Ken Stewart helped the team conduct screenings and test out hearing aids for people who need them.
One man, Vincente, is a father of four and physical education teacher who had a hard time hearing for several months. He was fitted with a hearing aide and was overcome with emotion.
“He said, ‘Thank you very much for your humanity and they did not have the opportunity in their lives for this so he is very thankful,’” Ken said while translating.
The team has seen more than 500 people and fitted more than 75 hearing aids so far. More information about the project can be found here.
